A more cogent description of Cricket [Oliver, 16 Jan 95] I've yet to read! It encapsulates the meaninglessness of the activity, and demonstrates that even in these times of performance appraisal, outcomes are not really that important--the process, not the product!!
However, it does demonstrate the inherent cultural bias essential in all histories. Media moguls perceive cricket (and I suppose baseball) from a particular perspective that allows them to rewrite reality to suit the marketplace (WORLD SERIES?). I wonder about the long-term effect of this link between media ownership, history, and revenue?
