The intolerant absolutism reflected in the opinions of some of the participants in this debate is rather frightening and alienating to a relative newcomer in the field. Fortunately I notice quite a few wholesome holists too!
Claiming ownership of ID for this or the other discipline seems to me to be terribly precocious and selfish. Surely what we want and need in ID is creativity, which is exactly what seems to be worrying Dave and others. But creativity does not let itself be strapped into a whalebone corset of scientific discipline--it transcends such narrow-mindedness.
