I do not believe that there was a consensus in the articles. There were a few who supported Clark and a few who supported Kozma. And, seems like there were a couple of different ideas. I doubt that the "issue" is dead as it keeps appearing in the journals with a different twist each time. Personally, I think Jim Knowlton laid a darn good basis for not doing media comparison studies in his papers on the definition of the field and a definition of a picture in the early 60's.
