I seem to be coming in at the end of this discussion, but I can't resist weighing in on learner confidence, too. Here's a short "bumper sticker" perspective on it.

You don't TEACH confidence as a distinct skill. Confidence is the natural by-product of instruction that is designed to produce student success. (See also: research on errorless learning.)
