The notions of constructivist learning environments and cognitive tools is relatively new to Instructional Technology (however, sociologists have discussed these ideas for decades). There is no research that I am aware of relating these environments with individual differences. I would suspect that there would be some interactions with controls such as field independence, cognitive complexity, category width, and cognitive tempo and personality variables such as tolerance for ambiguity, locus of control, and risk taking
