Folks... Looks like it's time to sign off.
I enjoyed the discussion, but confess I was disappointed there was not more. This is a very interesting medium to work in, and I like having as much experience of it as possible, because this is now the way many of our students are working. At the Open University we now have 15,000 students on-line, using computer conferencing instead of tutorials, and setting up their own self-help groups. This is proving to be very helpful and liberating for them, and very instructive for our lecturers, who by "lurking" in the students' conferences, get a much better understanding of how their students are thinking than they ever could before, and I suspect, than most campus-based lecturers achieve. This asynchronous, reflective form of academic discussion is a very important innovation in the development of knowledge, that we are only just beginning to understand and exploit. So I shall continue to "lurk," and look forward to Michael Hannafin's discussion coming up. Meanwhile, my thanks to all who took part, including the lurkers, and I hope the dialogue will continue.
