[referring to Reeves, 26 Oct 96] I hope you are not saying that educational research must always break new ground and never build on previous research. That lack of building a body of research is precisely why educational research is not a science. I have recently left ten years of work as a member of a health sciences research team to take a faculty position in higher education. I am very familiar with the expectations of research in this field and plan to apply much of the rigor and care to my educational research. However, I don't plan to break new ground every time I sit down to type. I hope I can build on the past. I believe that's what you are saying when you discuss the inadequate literature review problem with many articles and in some of your previous work on pseudoscience in education.
