[quoting Hardy, 4 Mar 97] As a novice IDer, nine months out of school, with only 15 months of "professional" experience, I know that I have a lot to learn to become truly professional. My problem is that I am the only instructional designer in my company and I don't have easy access to a mentor. What do you suggest that I do to become more proficient in my chosen field...
I think we've all been there & done that, Nancy. Hang in there! And, congratulations on your commitment to your ongoing professional development! I think that's an essential skill in this field.
I'm very frustrated by the lack of good "intermediate" level textbooks in this field (at least, until I write mine). As part of our internal training, we do have a constantly growing and evolving set of recommended readings and a reference library, but rather than do a "core dump," how 'bout some others quit lurking and help Nancy out? What do you (or did you) find useful when you wanted to get beyond what they taught you in your degree program? I'll put in my two cents worth later.
